ART EXHIBITION – I AM NINA

Presented by Funhaus Factory, this special retrospective exhibition celebrates the extraordinary creative journey of Nina Angelo OAM through an eclectic collection of original artworks spanning years of personal expression, experimentation and resilience. Alongside Nina’s own works, the exhibition features a collection of artworks created about her, as well as treasured everyday objects and collectibles from her private archive — together forming an intimate portrait of a remarkable life shaped by creativity, memory and survival. Losing all her belongings twice to house fires, the exhibition is both an insight into her domestic history and a powerful reflection on identity, loss and endurance.
Nina Angelo OAM is an artist, storyteller, and gatherer of stories whose work has flowed across communities, cultures, and generations for more than fifty years. Born in Athens, Greece, to parents who survived the Holocaust, and arriving in Australia as a child, her life and art are deeply woven with themes of memory, resilience, belonging, and transformation.
From the studios of the National Art School to remote communities, Pacific islands, festivals, and healing spaces, Nina has spent her life creating beauty from lived experience — using textiles, colour, story, and human connection as instruments of healing and celebration. Her work has been honoured with the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) and the Edna Ryan Feminist Award, recognising her lifelong commitment to empowering communities and uplifting women’s voices through the arts.
